Two arrested over mugging in capital

Police have arrested two suspects in a case filed in connection with the mugging Tk 40 lakh from Khilkhet area beside Kuril Flyover on Dhaka-Mymensingh highway August 4.

The arrestees were identified as Toyeb Ali, 42, and Sakil Sardar, 29.

Police recovered Tk 4 lakh and a private car used in snatching from their possession.

Shahajahan Saju, assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of Detective Branch (DB South) of police, said on information DB police arrested the main culprits from industrial area of ​​the capital in front of FDC gate on September 5. At that time, police seized Tk4 lakh and a private car used in mugging.

Shahjahan also said the arrestee confessed their crimes and also said they have been doing such acts for long time with an organised gang.

The gang keeps eye on people or organisations in the Motijhil area who withdraw a huge amount of money. Later, the criminals stop them at their convenient places. Even they stop money-laden vehicles and snatch money by showing intimidation, the ASI said.

Sometimes they also snatch money in guise of DB police, the ASI added.
