9 killed in road accidents in 8 districts

n Narayanganj, one man was killed and another injured when a covered van hit them in the Gognagar area of the sadar upazila yesterday

At least, 9 people were killed and many others injured in separate road accidents across the country from Sunday to Monday.

The accidents took place in Thakurgaon, Bagerhat, Narayanganj, Lalmonirhat, Noakhali, Kurigram, Mymensingh and Barisal.

In Thakurgaon, one person killed and 17 others injured when a Dhaka bound bus lost control and hit a pole yesterday.

The accident took place near the BGB sector headquarters of the Thakurgaon sadar upazila.

The deceased identified as Sefali Begum, 45, hailed from the Shalbahan area of Panchagarh’s Tetulia upazila.

The injured are currently undergoing treatment at the Thakurgaon Modern Sadar Hospital, confirmed Ashikur Rahman, officer in charge(OC)of Thakurgaon Sadar police station.

In Bagerhat, one child was killed and two others of the same family injured after a bus hit them while they were waiting to board a bus beside the road yesterday.

The accident took place on the Khulna-Bagerhat highway near the Tripti filling station of the Town Noapara area.

The deceased was identified as Maria, 8, and injured were identified deceased’s father Karim Sheikh,42 and mother Ayesha Begum, 35, from the Bhattrakhamar village under the Lakhpur union of the district.

Rabiul Islam, officer- in-charge of Katakhali highway police station confirmed the matter.

In Narayanganj, one man was killed and another injured when a covered van hit them in the Gognagar area of the sadar upazila yesterday.

The deceased was identified as Jamal, 40, son of Bhasani Sardar from the Uttar Moshinaban area of Gognagar while the injured were identified as Masud, 35, son of Abul Hossain from Dhaka’s Kamrangirchar area.

This was confirmed by Assaduzzam, officer in charge of Narayanganj Sadar model police station.

In Lalmonirhat, one person was killed and 20 others injured in a head-on-collision between a truck and a bus yesterday.

The accident took place near the Borokhata Dowani mor area in district’s Hatibandha upazila.

The deceased was identified as truck driver Mamun, 35, son of Abdur Robb from Hatibandha upazila’s Panchim Bejgram area, confirmed Omar Faruqe, officer-in-charge of Hatibandha police station.

In Noakhali, a 5-year old child was killed when a speeding microbus hit her near the Kabirhat Municipality area yesterday.

The deceased identified as Isha Akhtar, 5, was the daughter of Liton from the district’s Indrapur village.

Confirming the matter, Mirza Mohammad Hasan of the Kabirhat police station, said: ”A speeding microbus ran over Isha Akhtar while she was crossing roads near the Indrapur area. The driver managed to flee but we have seized the microbus.”

In Kurigram, one was killed and two others injured when a vehicle, locally known as Votvoti, overturned in Rowmari upazila’s Jhograr Char area yesterday.

The deceased was identified Rashedul Islam, 25, son of Nowsher Ali from the Dharmopur village under the Datvanga union of the Rowmari upazila.

Delwar Hasan Inam, officer-in-charge of Rowmari police station confirmed the matter to Dhaka Tribune.

In Mymensingh, two people were killed after being hit by a truck in Bagar Bazar Signboard area in Trishal upazila yesterday, UNB reports.

The deceased were identified as Fazlu Mia, 50 and Alauddin Mia, 70 of the Narayanpur village in the upazila.

Azizur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Trishal Police Station confirmed the matter.

In Barishal, one man was killed and two others injured when a speeding three-wheeler hit a parked truck in the Amtala Mor area of the city on Sunday.

The deceased was identified as Monir Hossain, 20, son of Akkas Hossain from Vorpasha under the Bakerganj upazila.

The injured were identified as Yunus Mia 35, from Kalaskathi under the Bakerganj upazila of Barishal and Rina Begum, 35, wife of Akkas Hossain from the Nalcity upazila of Jhalakathi.

The injured are currently undergoing treatment at Barisal Sher-E-Bangla Medical College Hospital.

Nurul Islam, officer-in-charge of the Barisal Kotwali police station confirmed the matter.
