Jatiya Party (JaPa) Co-Chairman Raushan Ershad has been made the opposition leader of the 11th National Parliament and party Chairman GM Quader has been made the opposition deputy leader of the house.
A gazette notification, signed by Parliament Secretariat Human Resource Division 1 Senior Secretary Dr Jafor Ahmed Khan, was issued in this regard on Monday.
The gazette was signed on behalf of Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury.
“According to the existing laws, the opposition leader enjoys all facilities of a minister while deputy leader will enjoy as the status of a state minister,” the gazette read.
Earlier on Sunday, JaPa Secretary General Mashiur Rahman Ranga said: “Raushan Ershad will be the opposition leader in parliament and party chairman GM Quader will write to speaker to recognize Raushan as the opposition leader.”
JaPa founder chairman HM Ershad was the opposition leader in parliament while Raushan was the deputy leader.
After Ershad’s death a dispute rose in the party when GM Quader wrote to speaker to make him the opposition leader in the 11th parliament.
Then a faction of JaPa declared Raushan as party chairman.
Later pro-Raushan and pro-Quader leaders met on Saturday and came to a solution. According the negotiation it was decided that Raushan will be the opposition leader in parliament and Quader will remain as the party chairman till its national council on November 30.
