Road accidents kill 12, injures 29 more

At least three people have been injured in a road accident in Chittagong on Wednesday and 12 people were killed in separate road accidents in six other districts on Tuesday.

In Chittagong, three people were injured when two buses collided in Kharana area in Patiya upazila on the Chittagong-Cox’s Bazar highway on Wednesday.

Bimol Chandra, in-charge of Patiya Highway police outpost said: “Three students of BGC Trust University sustained minor injuries in the collision.”

In Bagerhat, three people were killed and another was injured when a truck hit another truck parked at Bottola in Rampal upazila.

Rampal police station OC Tuhin Haoladar said: “Truck driver Yasin Hossain Answari, 24, was one of the three deceased, rest two are yet to be identified.”

In Munshiganj, two people were killed and 10 others injured when a Chittagong-bound bus and hit a covered van on the Dhaka-Chittagong Highway.

Bhoberchor highway police outpost officer Md Kabir Hossain said: “The deceased are yet to be identified. We rescued the injured took them to Gazaria upazila health complex.

In Chittagong, two people, including a leader of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), were killed and 10 others injured when a pick-up truck carrying them plunged into a roadside ditch after being hit by a truck on the Dhaka-Chittagong Highway in Mirsarai upazila.

The deceased are Mosharraf Hossain Milon, 23, cultural affairs secretary of Chhatra League’s Mirsarai upazila unit and Md Alauddin, 60.

In Satkhira, a Jubo League activist was killed and two others were injured when a motorcycle hit a human hauler in Shyamnagar upazila.

Shyamnagar police station OC Nurul Huda, said: “A motorbike carrying Mostafizur Rahman, 24, and two others collided with a human hauler around 10:30pm. When taken to a local hospital doctors pronounced Mostafizur dead.”

In Bogra, three people were killed and three others injured in separate road accidents in Dupchanchia and Shahjahanpur upazilas.

The deceased were identified as Abdur Rahim, 55, Nurul Alam Sheikh, 45, and Tafajjol Hossain Bulbul, 42.

In Tangail, a 22-year-old truck driver’s assistant, Rahat Tarafdar was killed when the truck he was riding on, overturned on the Dhaka-Tangail Highway in Shuvolla, Mirzapur.

Sources said, the Jamalpur bound truck lost control and overturned on the highway, critically injuring Rahat. When taken to the hospital the on-duty doctor declared him dead.

Mirzapur Gorai Highway police outpost SI Ashraful Islam said: “We arrested the driver and seized the vehicle.”
